This was an “explore and collect” adventure game that saw you roaming a giant citadel with dozens of locations, creatures and scenarios. The object of the game was, ultimately, to collect three crowns - however, to achieve this you had do certain other tasks along the way.
Each location on the map was a full screen and was occupied by creatures you could kill — monks who died if you shot them in the eye — and some you couldn’t.
You started out with 100 energy points and lost some whenever you came into contact an enemy or fire or stayed under water for too long.
There were keys to collect which only opened the same coloured door and other items which were useful in certain situations. For instance: taking the ice crystal down the well froze the water and allowed you to reach a previously inaccessible area; taking the talisman to the pyramid stopped the mummies from attacking you; taking the skull and bones to the witch’s cauldron burnt her up so you could explore her house.
All in all, this was a brilliant game that had me hooked for hours until I finally completed it. And after I did, I still went back for more.
