When I got my first car way back in January 1990 I was a 16 year-old learning to drive and between then and passing my test in May I covered over 3 thousand miles. Between passing my test and the following January I covered another 17 thousand or so miles. For the next how-ever-many years I averaged between 14 and 20 thousand mile per year. How is it now then that after owning my current car for over two years has it only just reached 10 thousand miles? - Calvin & Hobbes

This cartoon series is the funniest I’ve ever read - no question about it. The stories follow Calvin, a boy of about five or six years old, and his toy tiger, Hobbes, who comes to life when no one else is around. Together they get into trouble and are devilishly mischievous, but not out of some childish need to be naughty but simply through Calvin’s struggle to understand life and the world that surrounds him. - Imogen

This was a brilliantly cunning puzzler which saw you controlling the central character who has to solve puzzles, level by level, to complete the game. The puzzles are varied and require some serious consideration if you’re to complete them. - Superfrog

This has to be one of my all time favourite games. I know it’s a simple cutesy platformer based across six worlds and numerous levels within each world, but there’s something about it that’s just so … enjoyable. - Terry Pratchett’s Discworld

What can be said about Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series that hasn’t already been said? Not a lot, I imagine. For those viewers who haven’t read or heard of this series, it’s a collection of stories that all take place on the aforementioned Discworld - a flat disc of a planet that rests on the back of four enormous elephants who in turn are stood on the back of a gigantic star turtle that is swimming through space. The place is full of magic and, as a result, is populated by wizards, witches, dwarves, trolls, vampires and sometimes the worst of the bunch: humans. - Rays and clouds

Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints by QANTAS pilots and the corrective action recorded by mechanics. QANTAS is the only major airline that has never had an accident. Pilot’s comment: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement. Mechanic’s comment: Almost replaced left inside main tyre. - Welcome to Australia!

Surely, after 20 days of trial by fire, the Australians must now realise that God never really intended this enormous tinderbox to be used for human habitation. Plainly it has created as a giant dustbin, a place far from civilisation where all His failed experiments could be left to their own terrifying devices. - How high is a skyscraper?

The following question appeared in a physics degree exam at the University of Copenhagen: “Describe how to determine the height of a skyscraper with a barometer.” One enterprising student replied: “You tie a long piece of string to the neck of the barometer, then lower the barometer from the roof of the skyscraper to the ground. The length of the string plus the length of the barometer will equal the height of the building.” - Drinker’s Troubleshooting Guide

This is an excellent adventure game brought to us by LucasArts, the same people who gave us the superb Monkey Island series, the bizarre Day Of The Tentacle and the brilliantly weird Sam ‘n’ Max to name but a few. - The Shawshank Redemption

This film is without a doubt my favourite - it’s just one of those films you can watch over and over again … and I often do. For those of you who haven’t seen it: it’s the story of Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins), a banker, who gets tried and convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover - he protests his innocence, naturally, but gets two life sentences to be served back-to-back in Shawshank prison. - Citadel

This was an “explore and collect” adventure game that saw you roaming a giant citadel with dozens of locations, creatures and scenarios. The object of the game was, ultimately, to collect three crowns - however, to achieve this you had do certain other tasks along the way.
